Our Story
SwissGas is founded as part of Greek shipping company SwissMarine, to focus on LNG and LPG trading in the Mediterranean. The same year SwissGas was awarded a long term contract to transport LNG from Algeria to Greece
SwissGas expands in the large ship sector with the acquisition of ContiChem, the LPG trading arm of Continental Grain. The company is re-branded as SwissChemGas and is one of the largest LPG traders globally.
SwissGas is awarded its first LPG contracts in the Mediterranean and starts trading on small ships
SwissChemGas takes a strategic decision to scale down its activities in LPG trading

Trading LPG
Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) refers to propane and butane, by-products of oil & gas production and processing. LPG is mainly used in households for cooking and heating, as fuel in the automotive sector and as a feed-stock in the petrochemical industry.Expanding on its experience around LPG trading, SwissChemGas aims to operate under the highest standards and expand its long term relationships, enabling the company to generate value for its customers and business partners.
As part of its trading strategy the company employs risk management processes to protect itself against underlying price risks.
Shipping LPG
Developing reliable logistical solutions on a global scaleLPG transportation is a specialized activity and SwissChemGas have the experience to operate in the sector. Transportation of fully refrigerated propane and butane predominately moves on Very Large Gas Carriers (VLGCs). These range in size between 75,000 and 84,000 cubic meters (cbm).
SwissChemGas is an international LPG trader in the VLGC segment and has recently re-entered the market place.
